ABOUT US
The Need for Inclusive Representation in Sri Lanka's Packaging Industry
The absence of a professional body in Sri Lanka to represent and recognize individual past and present employees, as well as other technical experts across all sectors of the packaging industry, has created a significant void. This gap is deeply felt by thousands of packaging professionals who have developed specialized expertise in their respective areas within the industry.
To address this need, a body named “Association of Packaging Consultants” (APC) was established in May 2018 by a group of veterans from the local packaging sector. The association was created to formally recognize these professionals and their contributions to the Sri Lankan packaging industry.
How the Association of Packaging Consultants was formed
The existing Packaging Organizations- mainly the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging that have been serving the Packaging Industry for the past five decades represent the corporate sectors of the packaging industry and the individual employees of different sectors of the packaging Industry did not have any direct involvement in the activities of these organizations except for those handful who have been serving in those organizations as their office bearers. Absence of a professional body to represent and to recognize the individual past and present employees of the packaging sector had created a vacuum badly felt by thousands of Technical and non-technical employees who have developed expertise on their chosen fields in the Packaging Industry.’ In order to fulfil the above shortcoming, a body named “The Association of Packaging Consultants” (APC) was formed in May 2018 by a group of Veterans from the local Packaging Industry with me as the convener and the founder President. As a person who has been serving the Packaging Sector in Sri Lanka from 1968 to date ( 57yrs) and as the most senior active Executive member of the Sri Lanka Institute of Packaging representing number of its Member Organizations for 34 years from from 1984 to 2017, I felt the need for a Separate Packaging Organization to serve and represent the technical and non-technical individuals who have been working in the past, presently working and those who will be working in future in all sectors of the Packaging Industry in Sri Lanka I strongly feel I had taken the correct decision after consultation with my friend and Advisor Mr. Razik Zarook (Patron of APC)and my colleague Mr. J.D.Amarasooriya (Technical Advisor of APC) in forming the Association of Packaging Consultants (APC) which was inaugurated on 16th May 2018 at the Kotalawala Defense University Club House in Ratmalana sponsored by Mr. J D C Perera, the Chairman of the Packaging Development Centre (PDC). The inaugural meeting was convened by me as the immediate past Chairman of the PDC. Seven of the eight founder members were present at this Inaugural Meeting.. M/s Rohan Victoria, incumbent President SLIP, Mr. Anuradha Jayasinghe, Deputy President of SLIP & Mr. J D C Perera, incumbent Chairman of PDC were present as special invitees.
